Birdbrain

What is nature in relation to the concept of "nature"? Where does the boundary between the two truly lie? This work takes a domestic form of natural interaction and pushes it to the extreme, forcing the viewer to confront the tension between the constructed (domestic) and the raw (natural). These two opposing bookends of nature collide in a series of sculptures and performances, each challenging traditional notions of what constitutes “natural” behavior and space.

The objects and installations invite the viewer to examine their own relationship with nature, exploring how domesticity, often gendered and bound by societal expectations, intersects with the untamed, often perceived as masculine or chaotic. By presenting domestic forms within a natural context and vice versa, the work blurs these boundaries, asking us to reconsider our assumptions about the roles these spaces play in our lives.

The video, performance, and later “explorer pod” sculptures expand upon an earlier body of work that sought to address these same questions. These newer pieces further interrogate the intersections of nature, domesticity, and gender—pushing the viewer to examine how societal structures inform our understanding of the natural world.
